HOUSTON -- Life Flight took a taxi driver and his passenger to the hospital after a crash near Bush Intercontinental Airport early Monday.
It happened around 12:15 a.m. along JFK Boulevard near Rankin Road.
According to officers with the Houston Police Department, a man with luggage was walking southbound on JFK’s frontage road when he flagged down the cab in a moving lane of traffic. The driver stopped and helped the passenger put his luggage in the trunk.
An oncoming driver didn’t see the stopped cab and slammed into the back of it, hitting both the passenger and the cab driver.
Both men were taken to the hospital by Life Flight. They’re expected to survive but authorities said they may lose their legs.
The driver and passenger in the vehicle that hit the cab were unharmed.
Police said the taxi driver may be at-fault for the incident since he stopped in the roadway, and both he and his passenger may have been standing in front of the vehicle’s taillights.
