LEAGUE CITY, Texas — People are getting fired up about a firearms auction with antique weapons and even a rocket launcher.
“Some people collect thimbles and teacups and some people collect Ferrari’s,” said John Gay with L.L. Auctions. “This is somewhere in between. It’s the middle class that collects guns.”
The collection belonged to the late Bill James, the founder of the Arms Room. There are 107 items on the auction block and most date back before 1890.
“This is a Brown Bess musket,” said Colter Brog with the Arms Room. After walking through the extensive collections, he admits “there’s a lot here that we don’t even know what they are honestly.”
You’ll also find swords, a rocket launcher and a pair of signed tennis shoes from retired Houston Rocket Yao Ming.
“Those tennis shoes I probably won’t buy,” said Jeff Mattson who drove from Katy to register. “I’m more interested in buying something I can play with.”
The auction will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Arms Room at 3270 Gulf Freeway in League City.
Registration runs through 8 p.m. Friday and starts back up at 8 a.m. Saturday. The cost to register is $100 in cash and will be reimbursed if you don’t buy anything. If you make a purchase, it will be deducted from the cost of the item.
