KATY, Texas – A Katy grandmother was playing with her twin granddaughters Tuesday night when a loud noise startled them.
"I said to my daughter, ‘I think that’s a gun,‘" Linda Deffet said. "One of the twins thought it was a tornado. The other one thought it was a firecracker."
It turned out to be a pellet fired through a window of the home in the 3000 block of Winding Shore Lane in the South Lake Village area.
Fortunately, it didn’t hit Deffet, her daughter or the 4-year-old twins.
Mike Bryant’s home on Winding Shore was also hit.
"My wife was seriously considering moving the kids from one side of the house to the other," he said. "But I don’t really see the point. You go walk across the street and something could happen. You never know."
A total of four homes were targeted in a series of drive-by shootings that stretched into the Cinco Ranch area, as well.
Investigators don’t know why the homes were targeted. At this point, the shootings appear to be random.
"You know, it’s so frightening," Deffet said. "I don’t know why. I think they probably think it’s a game."
Witnesses have no description of the suspects or a vehicle. But all of them said the car had a loud muffler.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. Call 713-222-TIPS(8477) if you can help.
