KATY, Texas – The principal of a Katy ISD elementary school was placed on administrative leave Monday for allegedly making inappropriate comments during a faculty meeting.

West Memorial Elementary principal Kathy Leonard made a reference to Ebonics when commenting on a black student's reading test scores, according to the Katy Times.

Katy ISD began a formal investigation on Friday.

Leonard has been with the district since 1988.

She has been principal at West Memorial Elementary since 2004.
