HOUSTON — Jury selection started Monday for another man accused of gang raping a Cleveland Middle school student.
Jared Cruse is the second person to be tried in the rape of the 11-year-old girl. Fourteen adults and six juveniles accused of raping the girl were charged. Investigators said the sexual assaults occurred during a nearly three-month span in 2010.
Eric McGowen was the first to go on trial. On August 30, jurors sentenced McGowen to 99 years and a $10,000 fine for aggravated sexual assault.
The mother of the young victim expressed relief after hearing McGowen's sentence.
“I would like to see all of them have 99 years,” said Maria Ruiz. “That way they’ll never be able to hurt anyone again.”
