JACINTO CITY, Texas – Mayor Rachel Nunez passed away Friday after a yearlong battle with cancer, according to Harris County Precinct 2 Constable Chris Diaz.
“We’re gonna miss her. I had the pleasure of working with her on the city council for several years,” Diaz, who previously served as mayor of Jacinto City, said. “She was my successor and did a fantastic job as mayor. We’re gonna miss her.”
As mayor of Jacinto City, Nunez presided over city council meetings and was recognized as the head of city government for ceremonial purposes, according to the city’s website.
Prior to serving as mayor, Nunez served on the city council for seven years.
