HOUSTON -– A gun was found next to a burned body following an early morning house fire in east Houston, investigators said.
The fire was reported on Evanston Street near Boise around 3:45 a.m.
The Houston Fire Department said firefighters found heavy flames coming from a one-story home. They were able to quickly get the fire under control, but not before the fire caused extensive damage inside.
Neighbors who called 911 said they feared someone was in the burning home.
“I talked with one of the neighbors, and he said all the dogs up and down this little street here were barking, and that’s what alerted him that there was a problem,” said an HFD spokesman. “By that time all the neighbors had gotten up.”
Homicide detectives were called to the scene after a burned body was found in the home. Police said a gun was found on the floor nearby.
HFD arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
