CRYSTAL BEACH, Texas — Sunday marks the fifth anniversary of when Bridgette Gearen was raped, strangled and beaten to death near the beach. While no one has been charged in Gearen’s murder, investigators are confident those responsible will be brought to justice soon.
A vigil is planned for Sunday on Monkhouse Road at the beach in Crystal Beach to mark the anniversary and to allow investigators to update the public on the case, Detective Tommy Hansen said.
Hansen, who retired from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office last year but still works unsolved cases, called Gearen’s attack the most brutal he’s ever investigated.
