HOUSTON -- It was supposed to mark a new beginning for a couple and their six children. Instead, the family's recent move to an east Houston home ended with gunfire that left both parents dead.
Police were called to the home in the 1000 block of Defender Street after two teens found the bodies of their parents.
Investigators have identified them as 34-year old Lashandra Washington and 33-year old Sharman Ford.
A relative said they had been together since high school. They had two boys and four girls, who ranged in age from 6 to 15.
“They was real down to earth people,” cousin Donald Lee said. “They got along just, the average family.”
But another relative, who did not want to be identified, said the couple fought a lot. Sunday night’s argument took a violent and fatal twist.
While the parents finished their move, the children had been staying with an aunt. Then, just before 11 p.m., the two oldest came home and discovered their parents shot to death.
Investigators are calling it a murder-suicide and naming Ford their suspect.
Relatives say he had most recently been working as a handyman and doing odd jobs.
The six children will be staying with relatives for now.
