HOUSTON—A woman talking to her husband on the phone heard yelling and gunshots shortly before he was found dead on a northeast Houston sidewalk, police said early Friday.
The cell phone then went dead.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Tidwell Road at Parkway Forest Drive as the man walked home from a nearby store.
Police believe the man was the victim of a robbery before he was fatally shot. There was no early word on who the suspect might be.
Homicide investigators said the man, who was later identified as 55-year-old Gabriel Morales, was just a “family man minding his own business” before becoming a victim in a bad neighborhood.
