HOUSTON – A Houston mother was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony injury to a child after investigators said she admitted shaking her 11-month-old son.

Investigators said it happened on or around Christmas Day in 2013 at an apartment complex in the 9700 block of Gessner.

Travonda Selena Morris said she was rocking the baby hard without supporting his back or head, according to court documents.

“It wasn’t no normal rock,” she told investigators.

Morris said the baby cried out and then stopped crying. She then called 911 because she said the baby’s face was different and he was not responsive.

The child was transported to Memorial Herman Beechnut and then transported by Life Flight to Children’s Memorial Herman. That’s where doctors found hemorrhages in his eyes and a hematoma.

Doctors performed surgery to relieve the pressure on the baby’s brain due to extreme swelling.
