BENTON, La. -- Bossier Parish Sheriff Larry Deen says two Texas men and a Rhode Island woman have been booked with possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia after an Interstate 20 traffic stop for allegedly changing lanes twice without signaling.
Deen identifies them as Phillip E. Smith of Houston, John L. Smith, of Hemphill, and Monica L. Boswell of Newport, R.I. Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Davis says he doesn’t know if the Smiths are related.
He says that when a sheriff’s deputy stopped the car, Phillip Smith, who was driving, seemed very nervous and had a suspended driver’s license.
He says Smith refused permission for a search, but the car was searched after a drug-sniffing dog alerted from outside. He says the deputy found a suspected marijuana cigar, loose suspected marijuana and rolling papers.
