HOUSTON -- Sunday is looking like the stormy day for the weekend, said KHOU 11 News Chief Meteorologist David Paul.

Overnight into Saturday morning, lows on the north side will be in the upper 40’s and low 50’s. On the south side, temps will dip down into the low 50’s.

If you’re heading Mardi Gras Galveston this weekend, the high for Saturday is 67; there’s also a 20 percent chance for rain. On Sunday, the rain chance increases to 40 percent with a high of 77.

There could be a few light showers late Saturday afternoon and early evening in the Houston area.

On Sunday, a front approaches, and by noon we’ll have scattered showers -- especially in areas north of I-10 where there’s a 50-percent chance for storms. Sunday evening we’ll be on the severe weather watch as the storms are expected to continue throughout the night.

The cold weather returns next week. Highs will be in the 60’s, and the lows will be in the 30’s beginning on Wednesday.
