HOUSTON – A Houston cop is in jail for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and assaulting her.
Joe Fleming, 39, was arrested at the woman’s north Harris County apartment on Sunday.
The victim told deputies that Fleming forced his way into the apartment, put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her. She said he slapped her in the face several times and pulled her hair.
When she tried to call the 911, Fleming grabbed her cell phone and damaged it, according to investigators.
"The person broke into her apartment, after she closed the door, busted through the door, made forced entry, at which time he supposedly pulled his weapon and pointed it to her head, after assaulting her," said Tim Cannon, an assistant chief with the precinct 4 Harris County Contable’s Office.
The woman managed to run to a neighbor’s where she called for help.
Deputy constables arrested Fleming at the scene. He’s been charged with burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony that could send him to prison for up to ten years.Fleming is being held without bond on a felony burglary charge.
The victim had dated Fleming for several years but said they recently broke up. The former girlfriend apparently believed that Fleming was still involved with his wife, whom he’s divorcing, Cannon said. Beyond that, she believed he might have had yet another girlfriend on the side, Cannon said.
An emergency protection order was granted ordering him to stay away from the woman.
