HOUSTON – It’s been a sad couple of days for workers at the Houston Zoo after the passing of two animals - a leopard and a zebra.
Tuesday, they had to euthanize Ivy, an elderly female leopard. Her bones had become brittle and one of her front elbows had a break in it. The Houston Zoo veterinarian decided the best and most humane option was to euthanize her.
On Monday, Hatari, the male zebra, was injured by his yard-mate, an antelope. The two animals had been sharing an enclosure for several months without incident. The zebra received emergency care from the veterinarian but was unable to survive his injuries.
