HOUSTON – The Houston SPCA assisted the Newton County Sheriff’s Department in rescuing 41 animals from a desolate property on March 6.
Investigators said they found decomposing carcasses and skeletal remains of other animals littering the property and in cages next to surviving animals. Old furniture, vehicles, equipment, trash and stagnant water were strewn throughout the property.
The dogs, goats, chickens and rabbits were taken to the Houston SPCA shelter where the veterinary team was in the process of performing medical evaluations.
Pending judicial disposition, the Houston SPCA will place as many animals as possible into new homes or adoption agencies and sanctuaries.
