HOUSTON – All Houston Independent School District employees will be getting a pay raise, if the district approves a $1.7 billion operating budget Thursday.

The raise is a result of rising property values. Teachers would get at least a $1,100 bump. Other staff would get a 3 percent raise.

Schools will also get more money for supplies or field trips next year, but critics don’t like proposed cuts to popular magnet programs.

Property owners expect to see your tax rate rise about 1 or 2 cents, because of the 2012 construction bond package.
