Hogs sold for record prices at Junior Market Barrow Auction

HOUSTON - The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Barrows sold for two world-record prices Friday at the Junior Market Barrow Auction.

Five Star Metals / Linda Chapman and Ty Chapman; Dody and Carter Freeman; Jackie and Jon Hodges; and Becky and Kelly Joy purchased the Grand Champion Junior Market Barrow for a world’s record $200,000, according to a press release. The barrow was exhibited by Mandy Stevenson, 18, a Jones County 4-H member from Hamlin. Stevenson plans to attend Texas A&M University.

“These kids work their tails off,” Carter Freeman, a buyer, said. “We want to make sure they get the best education they possibly can.”

Evelyn and Roger Bethune; Ed DeCora; Judee and James Parish; and Sheila an Emmett Story purchased the Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Barrow for another world’s record of $126,000. The barrow was exhibited by Makenzie Vanable, 15, a Dumas FFA member from Dumas. Makenzie’s  plans to attend Texas Tech University.
