HOUSTON -- Leaders at Heights Presbyterian Church are already making plans to rebuild after a destructive two-alarm fire.
The Houston Fire Department ruled Thursday the cause was accidental and related to electrical problems.
Flames were seen shooting through the church’s roof on West 18th and Rutland around 12:30 p.m.
The fire started shortly after a church elder reported seeing someone suspicious on the property, leading to speculation that it was intentionally set.
“We pray it is electrical versus someone coming to destroy the house of god. If they did, I pray god’s mercy to ask for forgiveness for what they’ve done,” said Pastor Travin Roquemore Wednesday night.
Someone broke into the church this past weekend and stole speakers and computer monitors.
The church says it is trying to only look forward from here.
A prayer service has been planned for Thursday.
