MATAGORDA COUNTY, Texas – Heavy rains caused flooding in Matagorda County Wednesday, sending residents scrambling as water threatened their homes.
In the Tres Palacios Oaks subdivision, residents said they awoke to find a river where the road should have been.
"It’s been raining pretty heavy. I woke up at 8 o’clock this morning, and I came outside, and as you can see, the road’s gone," resident Jacob Ramsey said.
Emergency officials said as of Wednesday afternoon, about 20 houses were taking on water.
"It’s just a little bit scary. The river’s coming into our driveways and into our yards – it’s just flooding everything out," Ramsey said.
Ramsey and other residents said they weren’t sticking around to see how far the floodwaters will rise, and they can only hope that the rain stops soon.
