HOUSTON -- The largest public school system will consider ways to improve magnet schools.
Town hall meetings were scheduled to begin Wednesday night in Houston.
The Houston Independent School District, according to its website, has 298 schools with total enrollment of nearly 203,000. HISD is also the seventh-largest school district in the country.
The Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday that the school board has hired an outside consultant to audit its 113 magnet schools, which could lead to changes in funding and in the student selection process.
Superintendent Terry Grier says findings from Magnet Schools of America are expected by Dec. 1.
Magnet schools have various themes, with some specializing in fine arts or math and science.
