HOUSTON -- In an e-mail to his staff on Thursday, Harris County District Attorney Mike Anderson said he is undergoing treatment for cancer.
The type of cancer Anderson was diagnosed with was not specified.
Anderson, a Republican, was sworn in as D.A. in January after defeating Pat Lykos in the 2012 primary.
He spent 17 years as a prosecutor and 12 years as a state district judge before becoming the district attorney.
The D.A.’s spokeswoman released the e-mail Anderson sent to his staffers:
To my D.A. Family,
I have been diagnosed with cancer. I have great doctors and am undergoing treatment. I fully intend to beat this.
Many people have asked how they can help me. I would ask that you keep me and my family in your prayers and continue to do the great work that you're doing to make this the best D.A's office in these United States.
Proud to serve with you,
