HOUSTON – Don’t be alarmed by an increased police presence at this year’s Houston Marathon and Half Marathon.
The Houston Police Department said it has strategized a little differently in light of last year’s Boston Marathon bombings and have included four security checkpoints near the George R. Brown Convention Center.
“Yeah, we certainly took the lessons learned from Boston and other instances around the country. We critique those and see how we can get better,” HPD Assist. Police Chief Mark Eisenman said. “Just because you see an increased presence doesn’t mean it’s not safe. It’s merely that the route has changed a bit.”
HPD said they are working hard to make sure runners have an enjoyable and safe event.
