HOUSTON – Homicide detectives were investigating the shooting death of a teenage boy found by students Monday in a north Houston park.
Students on a track team from nearby MacArthur High School spotted the body around 7 a.m. in the 12300 block of Aldine Westfield while running through Keith-Wiess Park, police said.
The victim was identified as19-year-old Luis Lara. He suffered several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD said the shooting appears to have been gang related.
“We hear gunshots in the park all the time,” said a neighbor who asked not to be identified.
She lives across the street and said her children are not allowed to play in the park.
”It’s too dangerous there,” she said.
