HOUSTON— A teenage boy was accidentally shot by a friend Sunday at a home in southeast Houston, Houston Police Department homicide detectives said.
Police were called to the residence just before 1 p.m. and found Jaque Fields, 18, dead.
Police said two teens, described as best friends by relatives, were apparently playing with a gun. Fields was shot and killed as he sat on a porch chair.
Dozens of family and friends who gathered at the scene grieved as they watched the medical examiner drive up and take the body away.
"Now he's gone and we can't bring him back, and it's very painful right now -- I'm in a state of shock, but it's going to hit me, it's going to hit me, and when it does it's not going to be good at all,” said Rosiland Tyler, his grandmother.
Field’s friend was taken downtown in a police car for questioning. It wasn’t clear whether he would be charged.
