HOUSTON—A suspected drunk driver has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in a crash that killed a 9-year-old girl early Sunday morning.

It happened on Aldine Mail Route at Sweeney in northeast Harris County around 4:30 a.m.

Police said a mother and four children, aged 9 to 14, had just left an all-night church function and were traveling eastbound on Aldine Mail Route in a Ford Taurus when a white pickup truck, going westbound in the eastbound lane, headed directly for them.

The mother attempted to avoid a head-on collision by swerving into the westbound lane, but she did not make it in time.

Police said the pickup truck smashed into the passenger side of the Ford. The truck then went off into a ditch on the side of the road.

The mother and three of the children were taken to Ben Taub Hospital. Their conditions were not known. A 9-year-old girl died at the scene, in the back seat of the car.

The pickup truck driver, later identified as Anthony LeBlanc, was also taken to Ben Taub hospital, where he was found to be intoxicated, according to police.
