HOUSTON -- A family dealing with a cancer diagnosis got more bad news Friday morning.
Police said a man driving a pickup truck at a high rate of speed crashed into their a parked vehicle, causing a chain reaction accident in a north Houston neighborhood.
The incident happened around midnight Thursday on Woodson Road at Nickerson Lane, according to officers with the Houston Police Department.
Police said the driver was traveling westbound when he crashed into a parked pickup, pushing it into a car behind it and then into a large cargo truck parked in a driveway.
Firefighters had to extricate the man from the wreckage, and he was sent to the hospital in stable condition. There were no other injuries reported.
Officers said the cancer patient and her husband have been struggling financially and did not have insurance on their cars. It appears the suspected drunk driver was not insured, either.
