HOUSTON – A mother, who was attempting to shoplift from Almeda Mall on Christmas Eve, ran off and left her baby in a department store while trying to flee from authorities.
Police said 21-year-old LaQuinta Latrice Kemp was with her 1-year-old son in Macy’s when she attempted to steal clothes from the store.
A store employee confronted Kemp about the shoplifting when Kemp hit the employee and ran out of the store, leaving her child in the stroller.
She was captured outside the mall and placed under arrest. Kemp, who is on probation for previous burglary charges, is being held without bond on child abandonment and robbery charges.
Her son was turned over to his grandmother until Children’s Protective Services complete its investigation.
