HOUSTON – Police were searching for a man who fatally shot an acquaintance Tuesday at a southwest Houston strip mall.

It happened at about 4:30 p.m. in the 9400 block of Richmond Avenue where Kevin Moncada, 23, was in the parking lot with several friends.

The armed suspect exited his vehicle and shot Moncada several times, and then fled, police said. There were at least five shell casings on the ground.

Business owners said they heard four or five rapid gunshots and looked outside and saw the victim on the ground. Bullets also shattered the back window of a car.

Moncada died at the scene.

Witnesses said the suspect left the scene in a dark-colored SUV and headed toward Westerland.

Police said the suspect had been threatening Moncada since June 1 when the two got into an argument that escalated into a physical fight.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
