HOUSTON – A 22-year-old homeless man was charged with murder Tuesday after he allegedly beat another homeless man to death in downtown Houston, just feet from City Hall.
Houston police said Andrew Gregory Ealy and another man were at a makeshift homeless camp under a bridge in the 500 block of Rusk around 12:40 a.m.
Witnesses said the two began arguing over drugs and got into a shoving match. Ealy walked away, but returned later and began fussing with the man again. Witnesses were trying to separate them when Ealy allegedly picked up a brick and hit the other man in the head, killing him.
He then fled the scene, but was located in the 1300 block of Capitol around 10:50 a.m. and arrested without incident.
The victim was 32 years old. His identity is being withheld pending notification to his family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
