HOUSTON  -- Police say a man was taken into custody after he threw drugs while trying to run away from an officer in north Houston early Monday morning.

Just before 2 a.m. an officer with the Houston Police Department pulled over an SUV on Paul Quinn Street near Beall Street. Police said the vehicle did not have a valid registration sticker.

The driver came to a stop, and one of the three men inside jumped out and started running. Police said as he ran, the man threw a bag of cocaine against a fence to try and break it. The man was caught, and the bag of drugs was recovered.

Police said the two other men in the SUV did not try to run.

HPD believes well over 100 grams of cocaine was recovered as well as some marijuana and codeine.
