HOUSTON -- A 20-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday outside his family’s house in Acres Homes, Houston police said early Tuesday.
It happened around 1:40 a.m. in the 8020 block of Carver Road, according to the Houston Police Department.
Investigators said the victim, Michael Boyd, drove to his home after his work shift at Kroger. After he pulled into the driveway, an unknown person fired several shots toward the back of Boyd’s Ford Mustang. At least 30 rounds were fired and five of them hit Boyd.
“The gunfire started midway to the hedge; they followed him all the way to the car. He collapsed on the side of the house,” said Felicia Gibson, the victim’s aunt.
Police said Boyd died on the way to the hospital.
“My only son, my only child. He was a good boy and didn’t bother anyone. He go to work and he come home. Go in the back play basketball that was it,” said the victim’s mother Vertalee Boyd.
Relatives said every night after work Micheal Boyd goes to his girlfriend’s house on Airline and Goodson Drive, but last night he decided to stop off at home.
“He said he was going to go home and get a bag and come back,” said Gibson.
Relatives said no one else knew that except for his mother and girlfriend.
“I’m devastated,” said Gibson. “I’m so devastated because of all the people in the world, he didn’t deserve to die like this. Not at 20 years old. His life just started. He planned to go back to college in the fall. He had the same job since high school.”
