HOUSTON—Ten people were arrested after police say they stumbled upon an illegal cockfighting ring and a possible chop shop in northeast Houston on Saturday.

Police were initially called out to the scene in the 8200 block of Kerr on a report of animal cruelty. They say that’s where they found a group of people in the process of watching animals fight.

“They found evidence of that occurring because they found tools of the trade back there in the building. They’ve got an arena set up and they’ve got some cages off to the side," said Officer Jim Woods with HPD.

Police said in the process of securing the rest of the building they came across seven or eight  stolen vehicles that were broken down.

The owner of the business told investigators that he has paper work for all of the cars that police think may be stolen.
