HOUSTON – A driver who was speeding on wet roads in west Houston Monday night was trapped inside his vehicle after crashing into a utility pole, according to Houston police.

Police said a man was speeding westbound on Memorial Drive at Westlake Park around 9: 30 p.m. when he lost control at a curve on the rain-slick street, slid across the oncoming lanes and slammed his Ford Taurus into a wooden pole.

The pole split in half, causing the power lines to hang low.

HFD extracted the pinned driver from the car, then transported him to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.

A utility company had to come out and replace the pole.
