HOUSTON—A mother who was frustrated with her mentally-handicapped son was charged after she beat the boy with a cell phone charger, according to Houston police.

Alba Luz Rochez, 44, was charged with felony injury to a child.

On February 5, a CPS worker saw several marks and bruises on the boy and contacted authorities. He had a 6-inch, oval-shaped, red loop mark on the right side of his chest, as well as several long, 12-inch red linear marks on both of his arms, according to court documents. The CPS worker took photos of them as evidence.

The injured child was later interviewed at the Children’s Assessment Center.

He was not fully able to communicate what happened to him because he is mentally handicapped, but he was clear about a few things. The child said his mom hit him with a stick, a belt and a charger, but could not specify the dates when the injuries occurred.

The boy’s sister told investigators that she saw her mom hit him with a charger. She said the boy got in trouble because he was always making noise and saying the “B” word. The sister said her mom told her she was sorry about the injuries and that she did not want to hit her son anymore.

Rochez would not admit to beating her son, but did say her daughter was a “good girl and would never lie.”

Doctors said the injuries on the child were consistent with being hit with a cell phone charger. Charges were then filed.

Rochez was released from jail after posting $5,000 bond.
