HOUSTON – The case of an intruder who was killed Sunday in north Houston will be referred to a Harris County grand jury, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD said that Hasani Jones, 37, had been living at an apartment in the 1400 block of West Gulf Bank, but was kicked out a few days earlier.
At about 11 a.m. Sunday, Jones returned to the apartment and got into an argument with one of the residents, police said. The argument escalated with the two punching each other, but neither was injured.
Jones left after the altercation, police said.
He returned to the apartment at 7 p.m. Sunday armed with a hammer, police said. Jones entered the apartment uninvited and proceeded to attack the same resident with the hammer.
The resident was hit several times before he was able to place Jones in a bear hug, police said. The two men fell to the floor and began to roll over one another as they fought for control.
The resident was able to put Jones in a choke hold, but release the hold after Jones began to cough, police said. The resident then told another witness to call 911 for police and an ambulance.
HPD and paramedics from the Houston Fire Department responded to the call. Jones was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
