HOUSTON – HISD officials were sending extra patrol units to Bellaire High School Friday after hearing rumors of a threat of violence, school officials said.
School officials said the rumors began circulating on Thursday.
Some parents responded by taking their kids out of school on Friday.
The principal called parents Friday to assure them that the campus was safe.
“The purpose of my call is to let you know that we were made aware of a rumor regarding a possible weapon being brought to campus. Any time we receive this type of information we take it seriously as the safety of our students is paramount. We have increased our presence on campus through the HISD police department as well as with Bellaire PD units that are patrolling the neighborhood surrounding the campus,” Michael McDonough said.
School officials said they are trying to figure out where the story originated.
Meanwhile, classes continued as scheduled.
