HOUSTON – Houston firefighters are investigating after a two-alarm fire swept through an abandoned apartment building in southwest Houston early Saturday.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames shooting through the roof of the complex on Ella Lee at Gessner around 2:10 a.m. Due to the size of the fire, they immediately pulled a second alarm for more assistance.
Investigators said the entire complex was abandoned and fenced off, and was to be torn down for future development. High winds helped fan the flames, making the fire more difficult to fight, but all was eventually brought under control.
No injuries were reported.
