HOUSTON -- Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department were called to a construction zone in northeast Houston after a gas line was cut, forcing the evacuation of a nearby building.

It happened just before 10:30 a.m. in the 2100-block of Brooks near Mary, according to HFD.

A department spokesman said a third-party crew working on a water line accidentally cut an 8-inch gas line. Workers in a nearby warehouse for Houston Foam Plastics were evacuated as a precaution.

Some of the workers wore masks as they left the building.

HFD said neither a shelter-in-place nor evacuations were needed for nearby residents. It’s not yet known how long it will take to fix the cut.
