HOUSTON – Several residents and businesses were damaged late Wednesday after a fire swept through a building near the Galleria, according to Houston firefighters.
The building, located in the 2700 block of Crossview at Westheimer, housed at least six businesses on the bottom floor with an apartment unit above each of them on the second floor.
Firefighters arrived shortly after 9 p.m. to find heavy flames shooting from the downstairs of the building. They said a fire had broken out at one of the businesses and flames quickly spread to the residential units above and into the attic.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control, but the entire building was damaged, with the heaviest amount of damage in the center.
HFD says there were initial reports that a woman was trapped on the second floor, but after two sweeps of the building, firefighters found no one.
A firefighter fell on the second floor while battling the flames, but picked himself back up and continued working.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
