HOUSTON — A Loomis armored truck driver was shot Friday morning during an attempted robbery in northeast Harris County, authorities said.
It happened outside of a Walgreens in the 10600 block of the Eastex Freeway at Little York shortly after 10 a.m.
“We came out here and saw the truck, the money and the gun outside and we knew there was a robbery going on,” said shopper Connie Jones.
The 26-year-old driver was making a routine stop when he was ambushed by two male suspects. Both parties exchanged gunfire and the driver was hit. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
“He was reaching for his gun and the people saw that and shot him and took off,” said witness Jesus Martinez.
The armored car driver made it across the street to a McDonald’s restaurant where he called for help.
The suspects took off in a white sedan and both remain on the loose. It was not known if either suspect was injured.
The FBI is now investigating the robbery.
Detectives say there is surveillance video from inside the store, but the pictures of the suspects aren’t very clear.
