HOUSTON – A 25-year-old Houston mom was facing charges Monday after investigators said her toddler was found wandering the parking lot of a local JC Penney.
It happened around 9 p.m. on March 22, 2012, outside of the store in the 5800 block of E. Sam Houston Parkway.
According to court documents, a Harris County deputy was flagged down by a witness, who said she saw an intoxicated woman having trouble changing a baby’s diaper in the parking lot.
When the deputy approached the woman, later identified as Bryanna Lopez, he said she was stumbling, unsteady and unable to adequately answer his questions.
The deputy said he spotted Lopez’s 1.5-year-old son, wearing only a T-shirt and no shoes, walking around the parking lot about 25 feet away.
But when he asked Lopez where her son was, she told him the boy was in the car.
The deputy said the car, which was empty, had front-end damage.
Lopez was taken into custody at the scene, and child endangerment charges were filed against her on March 25, 2012.
