HOUSTON—A Houston woman who was angry that her neighbors were having a noisy New Year’s Eve party was charged with a felony for pretending to be an officer when she warned them to keep it down, according to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies.

Laura Maxwell, 51, was charged with impersonating a public servant.

Maxwell confronted her next door neighbor and told her that the party was too loud, investigators said. When the two women began to argue, Maxwell announced she was an undercover narcotics officer.

The neighbor said Maxwell was wearing some sort of uniform that had what appeared to be Sheriff’s Office patches on it.

The homeowner called the Harris County Sheriff’s Department to report Maxwell, and when deputies came out, they discovered her story was false.

Maxwell was placed under arrest and her bail was set at $5,000.
