Wells Fargo bank in northeast Houston
HOUSTON – A police chase ended with one suspect dead, another wounded and three others in custody after a bank robbery Thursday afternoon in northeast Houston, deputies said.
Around 2 p.m., the Harris County Sheriff’s Office got a call from a teller at a Wells Fargo branch located in the 9500 block of the North Beltway 8 saying that the bank was being robbed.
The suspects fled the scene in a white van before authorities arrived, but were spotted by deputies getting onto Beltway 8 heading east near Wilson Road. Deputies began to pursue the suspects and one the suspects opened fire on them.
The suspects then exited onto North Lake Houston Parkway and proceed to head west. They then made a turn onto Mesa Drive heading south.
The car chase ended near Ribbonwood and Sterlingshire Street after the suspects crashed their van into a ditch and then fled the scene on foot.
At some point, the suspects opened fire on deputies.
The deputies returned fire hitting two of the suspects, officials said. One of the suspects died at the scene, while another was wounded.
Two other suspects were later apprehended when authorities cornered them near a chain-link fence with barbwire.
Stolen cash was recovered from these two suspects.
A fifth suspect was also taken into custody, but was not in the van.
During the car chase, a Houston police officer struck a pregnant woman driving a truck, police said. The woman was shaken up by the accident, but was not injured.
No deputies were injured during the pursuit.
