HOUSTON—A drunk driver caused a fatal chain-reaction crash on Highway 6 Saturday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Aaron Jaques, 22, was charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Deputies said Aaron Jaques was speeding northbound in the 7500 block of North State Highway 6 around 11:30 p.m. when he slammed his Dodge Charger into the back of a slower moving pickup truck.
The impact caused the pickup truck, a 2001 Chevrolet 2500, to run into the southbound lanes where it was struck head-on by a Dodge Ram. Both trucks ran off the road and into the bushes.
The Chevy driver, Don Johanson, died from his injuries.
Saul Grimaldo, who was driving the Ram, was unresponsive at the scene and transported to Memorial Hermann for treatment. No update on his condition had been given as of Monday afternoon.
Jaques initially fled the scene on foot, but was found an hour and twenty minutes later, deputies said. Investigators determined he had been drinking at the time of the crash.
Jaques' bail was set at $30,000.
