GALVESTON -- Spring break is officially underway for students across the state.
As partiers descend on Galveston island by the thousands, they’re finding out that there's more to do this year.
You’ll also find Galveston police beefing up patrol.
“I've been coming to Galveston since I was a little girl,” said Tonya Darsey, of Grapevine. “It’s just a nice place to come.”
Tonya Darsey brought her daughters to the island. She says this place is tame compared to other spring break hot spots like Padre Island or Cancun.
Her girls are enjoying all that the seawall has to offer -- including the Pleasure Pier.
“We rode rides, but not the scary ones because I can't handle those,” said Brooke Darsey
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to visit Galveston in the next few days.
“I did not know there was this much fun in Galveston,” said
Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn are also gearing up for the big spring break crowds.
