GALVESTON, Texas—Galveston police successfully tracked down a suspect and his alleged kidnapping victim on Friday.

The suspect, Jackie Guthrie, was wanted in connection with the kidnapping of a woman and the murder of a friend of hers who attempted to stop the abduction.

Around 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a tip from witnesses. Officer Chris Sanderson was the first to arrive at the scene at 30th and Seawall Boulevard and approached Guthrie quietly to avoid making his presence known, according to the police statement.

Once the officer was within 20 feet of the suspect, he allegedly told Guthrie to lie on the ground and surrender. Guthrie was held at gunpoint until more officers arrived to handcuff him.

Police say a search of his clothing revealed a loaded handgun that is believed to be involved in the murder.
