FRIENDSWOOD, Texas - Citizens of Friendswood can now search for current crime information at the click of a mouse.

The Friendswood Police Department has joined a growing network of law enforcement agencies to present crime information via the Web site www.CrimeReports.com. Citizens will easily be able to go to the Web site and enter a ZIP code to see what crimes are occurring in their area. CrimeReports uses Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) definitions to report 15 crime types including homicide, burglary, theft and vandalism. According to CrimeReports, all addresses are rounded to the block level to protect victim and suspect identity.
A November 2009 press release from CrimeReports states that the company works with more than 700 law enforcement agencies across the United States to create the largest and most accurate online resource for up-to-date crime and sex offender information.
The Web site will be another tool citizens can use to stay informed and up-to-date on what is happening in the community. CrimeReports also offers crime alert e-mail service. Friendswood citizens can also sign up for e-mails from the police department and other city departments at the city’s Web site www.friendswood.com. The police department provides a weekly crime report through this e-mail service via GroupBuilder.net. Crime and arrest information is also provided on the city Web site through the link to Police2Citizen, a joint network with League City, Webster, Nassau Bay and Alvin police departments.
