FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – About 35,000 residents in League City, Friendswood and Alvin found themselves in the dark Tuesday afternoon after a power outage.

The power went out in all three areas around noon.

Officials in Friendswood confirmed that the city offices were a part of the outage, which affected areas serviced by Texas New Mexico Power Company in northern Galveston County and parts of Brazoria County.

By 2 p.m., the power was starting to come back on.

Officials with ERCOT said the outage occurred during planned repairs.

They expected to be able to reroute the power so a minimal amount of customers would be affected, but while they were working an unexpected disruption occurred.

Yup, been on here since 1:35. It came on once, then went back off and then on to stay so far. YAY for A/C and hot food! Why was the helicopter over my house for so long going in circles?

Chanel 2, 11 and I think it was 13 was over our block and house for an hour. It was kind of scary, they were so low. I think it's because we live right next to the substation.

"During a Planned Repairs" ???!!! Why didn't they care about a widespread outage? The inconvenience this caused and not to mention the medical situation on my end. I needed to use my emergency inhaler, and worry whether I should use my portable oxygen. And my biggest worry, was my Parrot "son" ! I was due to leave for the Dr. but so worried of leaving him in a closed in home. When I called New Mexico Power, their Lovely (?) recording said a widespread outage was in Alvin, League City & Friendswood & approx. ON time would be 2 hrs!!! Thank God it was just 1 hr. But 1 hr. of inconvenience & HOT. I saw the helicopters, but didn't know who or what they were flying around for. My neighbor called her children's school via cell phone & was told to come pick them up, as they were'nt able to get them all fed & cooled. So she picked them up. Thanks alot New Mexico Power or whoever PLANNED these repairs!.

caringprsn: Would you rather the power go out for greater lengths of time because lack of maintained? 1 hr is fast compared to center point.... It takes them 3 hours to get our power back on when there is a transformer problem. count your self lucky.

They say two hours and it is back on in one hour and yet people still complain.
