HOUSTON – Friends of a MacArthur High School senior found dead in a hotel after prom held a car wash fundraiser in her honor Sunday.

Jackie Gomez died hours after her senior prom at the Hyatt North Houston Hotel. Her prom date called 911 when she didn’t wake up the next morning.

Police found alcohol and prescription painkillers in the room.

On Sunday, her friends washed cars and sold food to raise money for the family.

“It means a lot means a lot for me i wish my daughter were here… she’s not here anymore and i know all her friends loved her,” Juana Barron, Gomez’s mother, said.

Friends have helped raise more than $3,000 over the past week.

The family said they still don’t know what happened that night.

Autopsy results are still pending.
